Wind warning issued for much of southern Ontario with 'strong cold front' moving through Saturday

Much of southern Ontario is under a wind warning with strong gusts expected on Saturday.

Environment Canada had first issued a special weather statement for all of southern Ontario, but it was replaced with a warning for most areas with gusts now expected to reach 90 km/h.

The weather agency said strong winds can be expected Saturday morning into the afternoon “in the wake of a strong cold front.”

Winds will ease from west to east into the evening hours.

Power outages and some damage may occur, Environment Canada said.

Some areas further north, including Ottawa, remain under a special weather statement with gusts there not expected to be quite as strong, but still up to 80 km/h following the passage of the cold front.
