Man dead after Falconridge shooting Monday morning

One person is dead while a man and a woman were taken into custody by Calgary police Monday afternoon. As Elissa Carpenter reports, police closed down the majority of Falsby Way N.E.

One person died Monday morning after gunshots were heard in Calgary’s northeast community of Falconridge.

Calgary police confirmed to Global News there was a heavy police presence on the 0-100 block of Falbsy Way N.E. after shots were fired.

In a statement on Monday afternoon, police said a man was confirmed dead upon arrival and the death is considered suspicious. An autopsy will take place later this week.

Investigators said they were still interviewing witnesses and canvassing for CCTV footage at the scene.

As of 11:30 a.m. on Monday, summer school students and staff at Bishop McNally High School were being asked to stay indoors as police tried to piece together where the gunshots came from.

Two people — a man and a woman — were arrested by CPS nearby.

On Tuesday, CPS posted on Facebook that the two people taken into custody were released but did not provide further details other than to say an investigation is ongoing.

 

The Calgary police tactical unit was also present as police were asking people to avoid the area.

Officers closed off several roads in the area on Monday and asked drivers to use alternate routes.

On Tuesday, police asked that anyone with information about what happened call them at 403-266-1234. They said tips can also be submitted anonymously through Crime Stoppers.
