A man and his canine companion risked their lives by jumping into a frozen New York state reservoir to rescue two other dogs that had fallen through the ice in a rescue mission captured on video.

Timothy Yuriev, a Yonkers resident, spotted the dogs in distress while he was out for a walk in the reservoir with his wife and dog on Saturday.

“First we heard the screaming, the woman was screaming for her dogs… and then we saw two dogs crossing the lake,” the man told NBC 4 New York.

Yuriev’s wife, Melissa Kho, captured her husband on video stripping down to his knickers and jumping into the frozen water.

“Just witnessed something amazing: My hubby (and pup) rescuing two dogs trapped in the ice,” she said on Facebook.

Video shows a near-naked Yuriev walking into the water, breaking ice as he moves closer to the first dog. His golden retriever decided to follow, and Yuriev and his dog reached the stranded animal, breaking the ice for the pooch to follow them back to shore.

Once the first dog was safely back on solid ground, the rescue-duo waded back into the ice water to reach the second dog that was stuck paddling in the water further out from shore. Again, Yuriev is seen swimming out while smashing through the ice to reach the dog.

“I was looking at them and I realized, all right, so… the rescuer, they will come maybe in 10, 15 minutes. The dogs might have hypothermia,” Yuriev told the news station.

Yuriev said his dog, Kira, loves the cold outdoors and isn’t bothered by cold water.

As for Yuriev?

“Because of my past, I used to live in Siberia – my grandfather, a hunter, he taught me how to stand cold, and how to prepare yourself,” Yuriev told NBC.
