A horse was spotted cruising down a Texas highway standing on the open bed of a pickup truck — sans tailgate — baffling passing motorists.
Multiple people captured the bizarre sight over the weekend, while one motorist claimed the vehicle was travelling nearly 100 km/hr on a highway near Corrigan.
“This is considered redneck country,” Kerry Green Costello, who captured a photo of the horse, told KPRC. “Even the simple horseman would have never done that. That’s money. That’s value to them.”
Green Costello shared the image on Facebook, suggesting the horse was “either very well trained or scared to death.”
“Only In Texas,” she wrote.
Only In Texas. This horse is either very well trained or scared to death. We passed this truck hwy 59, past Lufkin. I’m all for a go fund me account for the horse so we can get a proper trailer. Lol
The photo shows the horse standing close to the edge of the bed of the truck, which was also missing a tailgate. The horse appeared to be secured only with a rope.
Green Costello told KPRC said she drove past the vehicle that she believed to be travelling about 55 m.p.h. (about 88 km/hr).
“There were no hazard lights on,” she said. “No tailgate.”
Another motorist, Ami Parbs, captured video of the horse and truck cruising through the town of Corrigan.
“Only in Texas,” she captioned the video, echoing the earlier Facebook caption by Costello.
According to ABC13 Eyewitness News, the driver was eventually pulled over by local law enforcement, but was let go because he wasn’t breaking any laws.
