Superbowl weekend wasn’t without its problems, as York Regional Police point out. According to a news release, 21 impaired drivers were removed from the road last week, with a total now over 100 so far this year in York Region alone. They also “name and shame” impaired drivers on their website.
On Sunday, February 3rd YRP were called to the drive-thru of a restaurant in Aurora shortly before 5pm, where they found a driver passed out behind the wheel. The vehicle was still running, and despite repeated attempts to wake the driver officers were forced to smash the passenger side window.
After gaining access to the vehicle they noticed the driver smelled of alcohol, he was arrested and was later given a breath test where he blew more than four times the legal limit.
They released the dashcam footage on their Twitter feed with the message “For those who doubt that impaired driving is a very real problem, we share this with you. Happened at 5pm yesterday in Aurora. The driver, who was completely passed out, blew more than 4x the legal limit.” #ThisIsNotOkay #NotOneMore
In a later tweet they noted that the driver has been charged, his licence is suspended for 90 days and his vehicle has been impounded for 7 days.
