This is an update to a blog I posted a few weeks ago. (See below for original + music video)
On The Breakfast Club this morning, we spoke with Adrian Sutherland, the lead singer of Midnight Shine. The Indigenous rocker opened up about his music, getting his start opening for Trooper and what is was like watching The Tragically Hip perform in James Bay.
This is so beautiful!
Indigenous rockers Midnight Shine covered Neil Young’s “Heart of Gold” with new version that features a verse in Cree. The band is from Attawapiskat, a northern Ontario First Nation community, and the video was filmed there.
Midnight Shine’s lead singer, Adrian Sutherland, says it was tough to translate the song into Cree because gold is described as “money rock”. Since that didn’t do justice to Neil Young’s meaning, he chose to sing “good-hearted” instead.
Have a BIG one!
